SCHOOL FOR LIFE WORKS IN RURAL UGANDA WHERE, WITH YOUR HELP, WE HAVE MADE A REAL IMPACT WITH OUR COMMUNITY-LED PROJECTS IN EDUCATION, HEALTH AND EMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS.
We’re a little charity making a big impact!
Your generosity and the generosity of people around the world helped us establish Katuuso Primary and Vocational School in 2011.
In 2015, in partnership with the Cotton On Foundation, we began construction of another primary and secondary school in the community of Mbazzi.
We are now running 3 fully operational schools, employing 120 staff and educating 1,700 students from pre-school to Senior 5.
EXTENDING OUR REACH
Education has been key to opening up other opportunities in healthcare, agriculture and the environment. We provide health and nutrition services, promote and implement sustainable projects, and we have established tailoring and agricultural programs to promote sustainable economic development in communities where we work. In 2023, we piloted a Government primary school partnership to implement our quality education model in local schools. This program is focused on increasing access and attendance, health and nutrition and capacity development and empowerment for staff and parents. We are providing nutritious meals, infrastructure, clean water, skilling programs, capacity development for staff, reusable menstrual hygiene kits for girls and community outreach.
We are creating a model we can scale and replicate to change the lives of thousands more people.
OUR PROJECTS:
A FOUNDATION IN EDUCATION – AN IMPACT ON EVERYONE
Our education centres can be found an hour and a half away from Uganda’s capital Kampala. To date we have raised more than A$10 million and mobilised the support of thousands of people around the world who have helped us:
Educate more than 1,700 students annually
Employ more than 120 adults in related roles
Train 15 and employ 10 women as tailors
Provide 3 nutritious meals a day for all our staff and students
Provide clean drinking water to the entire Katuuso and Mbazzi communities
Facilitate healthcare days for the Katuuso and Mbazzi communities
Distributed 5,000 menstrual hygiene kits to women and girls in the community
According to the United Nations Human Development Report 2014, the average child in Uganda receives only 5.4 years of schooling. This inspired us to replicate the Katuuso Primary and Vocational School model and increase our scope and impact in rural Uganda, building the Mbazzi Primary and High School campus in 2015.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We depend on the generosity of donors and sponsors to fund our work. You can help increase our impact by sponsoring a child, a teacher or you can help us provide 3 nutritious meals a day to students and staff. Change a life and impact an entire community!
In 2010, Rachel began as a cleaner at Katuuso Primary and Vocational School. She was working to save money to study to be a teacher at University. Thanks to Barrie and Simone Goldsmith, her dream of studying came true and she is now fully qualified.
